Abstract. Lighter-tan-air (LTA) Unmanned Aerial Systems have become and important part of airship market worldwide. In recent years, developments by military and civilian organizations in Europe, USA and ASIA have lead investigators and researchers in Latin America to propose the use of LTA equipment in diverse applications by government and military sectors, proposing a new alternative in the communications and surveillance/reconnaissance market. This paper takes a survey on the actual LTA-UAS market worldwide and offers a status report for the on-going LTA-UAS programs in Latin America. It also provides a report of the author’s experiences in recent activities to research and develop LTA-UAS equipment for diverse applications in the Latin American region.
Los sistemas aéreos no tripulados más ligero que el aire o LTA por sus siglas en inglés, comúnmente llamados dirigibles, buscan su lugar entre las aeronaves en todo el mundo. En los últimos años, desarrollos de organizaciones militares y civiles en Europa, USA y ASIA han llevado a investigadores e investigadoras de América Latina a proponer el uso de equipos LTA en diversas aplicaciones por parte de sectores gubernamentales y militares, proponiendo una nueva alternativa en las comunicaciones y vigilancia/ mercado de reconocimiento.
